Kidney jokes: can they ever be too much

I was at a nephrology conference last week when a colleague joked, “Why did the kidney break up with the bladder? Because it felt like it was just going through the motions!” We laughed, but it got me thinking — do we cross the line with humor in renal care? Sometimes it feels like dark humor is all we have to cope with the serious stuff. Anyone else have a favorite kidney-related joke?

I get what you’re saying! Sometimes it feels like we just need to laugh to stay sane. But hey, if it’s too much about kidneys, maybe it’s time to hit the ‘pause’ button — after all, we don’t want to be pissing off our patients.
