I had a five-year-old patient the other day who insisted on diagnosing me with the ‘sneezies’ after I sneezed in front of him. He then proceeded to prescribe cuddles and ice cream as a cure. if only my own patients had the same outlook on health care — who knew pediatric medicine would come with such a sense of humor.
That’s hilarious! I once had a kid tell me I should just ‘drink some juice’ to fix my cough — as tempting as that prescription sounds, some days I just end up with their favorite cartoon on instead. Who knew ‘pediatric medicine’ included listening to Peppa Pig for a diagnoses?
And kids really have a knack for the unusual diagnoses! I had one call a stethoscope a ‘doctor’s magic wand,’ and it definitely made my day. Sometimes, embracing their wild imagination helps lighten up the seriousness of medicine — cuddles and ice cream could be just what we need after a tough shift.
Right? I had a kid once say I needed ‘happy juice’ for my stress!
